The Federal Self-Employed category is for candidates who have relevant experience in the field of cultural or sporting activities and have the intention and ability to create their own employment as well as make a significant contribution to cultural life, arts or sports in Canada. Applicants with farm management experience may also apply under the federal self-employed program. All occupations whose National Occupational Classification (NOC) starts with 5 are eligible for this program such as
• Athletes and coaches,
• Comedians and actors,
• Editors and journalists
• Singers,
• Dancers,
To be eligible for the federal self-employed program, the candidate must meet the following criteria:
1. You intend and are able to work for yourself in Canada.
2. You have relevant experience acquired during the period beginning five years before the date you submit your application as follows:
• Two one-year periods of self-employment related to cultural activities, or
• Two one-year periods of participation in world-class cultural activities, or
• A period of one year described in point a) above, combined with a period of one year described in point b) above.
3. You must obtain a minimum of 35 points out of 100 by meeting the selection criteria for self-employed workers.
